July 2017 was another great month for travel-related blog posts all over the web!
Here are a few of my favorites from this month, including my fave quotes from a couple of them. Enjoy!
1. “9 Ways to Live an Extraordinary Life” – Making Sense of Cents
Michelle Schroeder-Gardner is a successful personal finance blogger. By working her butt off at her blog, she earns enough money to travel around the world. In this blog post, she explains how others can adapt the correct mindset to get as much out of life as she has.
I love that she makes a huge point of reminding readers to live whatever an “extraordinary life” means to them, even if others don’t encourage them or share their dreams. That’s important for me to remember. First, because I don’t know many other people who are as obsessed with traveling as I am, which can feel discouraging. Second, because I shouldn’t judge others for not sharing that dream. We all have our own ambitions, and we should follow whichever ones empower us.
“There are plenty of legitimate reasons for setbacks, and sometimes the road to your dream life isn’t easy. However, before you say that something isn’t possible, you should stop and think about whether or not you are just making excuses.”
2. “Does my body shape define my travel experiences?” – As the Sparrow Flies
Sam Sparrow discusses her body shame and how travel feeds her insecurities. She is embarrassed when she struggles on a scenic hike, eats too much delicious foreign food, or sees other super-in-shape female travelers.
This piece struck a cord for me, because I am a fellow female travel blogger. In this circle–especially on Instagram–it’s common to see really hot girls posing in photos in foreign cities.
And nothing against those girls. Good for them, they work out! But it’s important to remember that even if we don’t look like them, or if our bodies aren’t ready to participate in the same strenuous activities when we travel, our travel experiences don’t matter any less.
“Are you fucking kidding me? Gelato is awesome.”
3. “Good Language Learners Demystified: A Look at the Qualities that Make Them Successful” – FluentU
Fluent U, a language learning/teaching website, reveals why some people are good at learning languages and others aren’t. Heads up … the reasons aren’t ones you might expect.
4. “4 Resources for Women Interested in Travel Writing” – The Write Life
This blog post is more about writing than traveling, but it’s valuable information for any lady who wants to learn to put her experiences around the world down on paper. Especially for those of you who are complete beginners to travel writing … take a gander.
